Recent News 6-7-08

“So My new area is still in the city of Kumasi. I’m being transferred from Asuoyeboa, Kumasi, to Boukrom, Kumasi.

When I found out the news last night that I was being transferred I just felt destroyed honestly. Because I really felt like I was making a difference in this area. We had 4 baptisms on Sunday, and for the rest of June we had 9 investigators preparing to be baptized. But as I wrote in my journal, the Lord must have something planned for me in Boukrom. My new companion will be going home a transfer after this one so I’m wondering if I will be staying in that area for at least 2 transfers. We never can tell. My new mission president will be here the 1 of July. Should be interesting. I think I will be able to get a lot closer to him because he’s from the states, and also I will be serving under him a lot longer than with President Dil. But I’ve also grown to love President and Sister Dil. Even more so the couple missionaries in Kumasi here; Elder and Sister Burgess. I will miss them greatly. I guess my biggest worry about being transferred is the area that I am leaving behind. All of the investigators and members that I have gotten close to, and also worrying about how well the missionaries will continue to contact and teach those investigators that I cherish most. I’m also going to miss living in the same apartment as Elder Hurst; Aka my twin. I’ve grown extremely close to that man. Or boy or young man. Idk really how to say it. He just graduated last year. So I’m older than him, but he’s older than me on mission. So it’s been sweet. Everyone around here thinks that we are twins too. I guess it doesn’t help them when we dress EXACTLY the same from head to toe. Lol it was pretty awesome when we went on splits together and dressed the same haha. What can ya do.

Well I hope everything is going well at home. Its funny to hear you talk about grass because actual grass is a rarity here. All dirt and tall tall jungly growth haha.

Attached is a before and after picture of my baptism on Sunday lol. Elder Hurst took the second one so it wasn’t planned that’s for sure. -Elder Wright”

I’m sure everyone already knows Garth is in Ghana, Africa serving his mission, but maybe you don’t! Anyway, I thought I’d create a little page to kinda keep tabs on what we are hearing from him and some photos and contact information. For those who don’t really know, Garth is Thayne’s little brother. I will try to put up some more information and updates soon, but here’s the basics, most information as seen on Ana’s page as well.

The Ghana Cape Coast Mission covers the western half of Ghana as well as the countries of Togo, Benin, Cameroon and the Central African Republic.

Elder Wright Address Info:

REGULAR MAIL:
You may send letters and packages through the Postal Service using the following address:

All large envelopes and packages will be opened by the customs official and a “duty” will be levied before the packages can be picked up. Garth will be required to pay the “duty” on the contents of the package or envelope. Duty in Ghana is substantial, especially on electronic items and CD’s.

PACKAGES BY PRIVATE COURIER:

Packages may be sent to the Mission home through a private courier (Fed Ex or DHL). This is the most secure and fastest way of sending packages and the packages are traceable. (It is also the most expensive!) To ensure your package is not stopped for duty, please indicate on the shipping label that duties and taxes will be paid by the sender. The Mission address is:
